Elliot puts his Apprenticeship skills into practice!

Allianz Learning Apprenticeship Scheme

Elliot Blackman Welder & Fabricator Elliot Welding

Before I started my Apprenticeship, I was working in a pub. Even though it was a job I enjoyed, I felt it was time for me to widen my horizons. I wanted more than just a job, I wanted a career and as a practical person I felt that an Apprenticeship would allow me to develop new skills and eventually put those skills into practice.

I applied to Alliance Learning who helped me secure employment via an Apprenticeship with Fairport Containers Ltd. They are family run business, established over 25 years ago, providing the waste, recycling and charity sector with refurbishment programs for every type of steel container.

At present I am working in the recycling & charity bank division. My role is to fully refurbish both steel wheelie bins and banks, I do this whilst studying towards an Apprenticeship in Fabrication & Welding at Alliance Learning. I have learnt many hands-on skills, both at Alliance Learning with the tutors and at my place of work.

My Apprenticeship has also benefited me personally, it has enabled me to gain more confidence professionally, academically and personally. During my first year, I have also undertaken an additional training course and I am now fully qualified in my 2 tonne Forklift driving license.

Having recently completed my Level 2 Apprenticeship, I now hope to gain my Level 3 Apprenticeship in Fabricating and & Welding. I would also love to continue my work at Fairport Containers and gain experience in working on other areas of the refurbishment departments, such as operating the overhead cranes and repairing bulk roll on roll off containers.
